I'll let others comment on specific design choices, but I would hesitate to install a floating vanity of any real weight without putting brackets in the wall = removing a good chunk of the existing subway tile.

No.

If you want to go with a modern look (floating vanity), the wall tile needs to go as well as the toilet.

As is, the floor tile looks modern but the other elements--6 panel doors, toilet, wall tile, pedestal sink are all Victorian-ish/ very traditional.

So, IMO, if you want a contemporary look, the floor tile can stay but everything else needs to go.

Thank you, thank you! I 'm glad i asked re: Floating vanity and agree i feel like all in there is very victorian'ish! I don't want to spend too much so wondering if just upgrading floors, the paint and fixtures may just do the job alone then?
