I have a rain shower whose shower head is at a slight angle about 7' from the floor. I don't like it as much as I thought I would because it's difficult to soap up: either nearly all of your body is in the stream or nearly all of your body is outside the stream. I've concluded that a conventional shower head located somewhat lower and at a steeper angle works better. Pictures of shower heads like this with the cute girl all wet and sexy look great but she's not actually trying to wash.

My Hansgrohe 10” round rain shower gets me good and drenched. I use it to get wet, then step out of the spray and turn the flow way down to shampoo and then rinse off with it back on high, turn it down again to soap and then back up to rinse. I prefer it to the wall shower head, hands down. I use the hand-held shower head to rinse under things and when I have a treatment in my hair. I did take a flow restrictor out of the hand held, but if the rain shower had one, it is still there.

Rain heads are awful for daily use.

Rain heads seem like a cool thing, but every time I've used one I've found it annoying. I don't like to have to choose between having my head drenched continuously or having to step out of the line of fire. And some of them don't have a strong enough stream to get shampoo residue out of your hair efficiently. Lastly, rain showers tend to use more water than a regular shower head, so you may find yourself running out of hot water faster.

The only way I would have one is with a diverter valve so I could switch between the rain head or a regular shower head. It's your shower, but I can think of a lot of other things I could buy for $1600+.
