David Austin 'The Countryman'

I have been looking for David Austin's 'The Countryman' for years now. I bought it when we lived at our other house many years ago. Wish I would have brought it with me but I figured I would just buy it again. The own root rose vendor I purchased it from has since closed their doors.

I LOVED this rose. It was by far my favorite David Austin. It bloomed profusely and non-stop and I loved the shape of the bush. My number one priorty is fragrance and this one had it in spades. So yummy.

I'm in Canada. If anyone knows where I might find it, I'd be grateful. I only buy own root roses but might consider a grafted version of this if that's all I can find. ;)

I'm so glad you posted this, and that Chris knew of a source. I've been on the wait list at DA for ages. If you check HMF, you'll see my comment on The Countryman from back in 2012. Since then, I've lost mine to rosette disease. I really need to replace it. There's nothing that smells quite like it...old rose and strawberries!

I know Freedom Gardens sells it occasionally and you can ask for it to be custom propagated. They also are selling a sport of The Countryman they're calling 'Country Boy'.

Not sure if they ship to Canada though.

Unfortunately, I don't think he ships, but worthwhile inquiring because that could have changed. Peter will custom root and he has so many other rarities.

It’s $30 to preorder a rose now, it used to be $20.

It's been $25 for a few years now since I've noticed since that's what the roses are. I did notice he raised it to 30 Very recently to preorder a rose as I know he's been having some problems with that.

I contacted Peter from Freedom Gardens and he does do custom propagation (he will do The Countryman). He told me that he does a limited amount of shipping each fall - but unfortunately for me he won't ship to Canada. :(

My search continues...

I hope those of you in the US looking for The Countryman are able to get yours shipped!

Thank you for touching base about this rose. I checked right away! Unfortunately, Heirloom Roses has 'Countryman', a Buck rose not 'THE Countryman' a David Austin rose. I still have a spot for this beauty when I finally find it...
