You already have a backsplash. Are you removing that 4 inch piece?

It‘s hard to say, but on my monitor, the counter looks like cream and gray.

I would do a cream tile so that it won’t clash with the floor tile.

No. the 4 inch piece was recommended with the countertop install. I am looking to tile the area under the cabinets

Typically that would be removed for other back splash installs. If you are keeping it then I would suggest a border piece best to it then your tile.

Typically, the four inch piece is either left alone with no backsplash above (ie. the 4 inch piece is the backsplash), or you remove it and do a backsplash. You don't do both. While i think there can be some flexibility with this rule, i would highly advise against breaking this rule with your busy counter.

We are in the process of finishing up. On a backsplash, less grout lines , smoother surface, easier cleanup. If you use natural stone, such as marble , we found to use a sealant before setting the stone. We noticed the mortar will change the color of the marble. Luckily we found that out sooner rather then later.

For me the counter would compete with a busy backsplash.
