Antique Rose 89

Does anyone grow a rose called Antique Rose 89? It’s such an unimaginative name that I was sure it was code for a more beautiful nickname, but no, it seems to be the name. It’s hard to get information on it online because the name is so common, and it doesn’t appear in any of my books about roses.

Any experience and advice would be greatly appreciated! I would love to see a photo if you’re willing to share.

I have read that this one gets very large, though my plant is not . It has pretty good vigor and is gaining size every year. It's about 5.5' tall or so. Has good health. I can't remember any amazing fragrance so conclude fragrance is not memorable. Little Red Riding Hood is a nicer name but maybe it should be Big Red Riding Hood. Blooms are pretty big. I've known it as Antike 89.

Both “Little Red Riding Hood” and ”Antike 89” do sound much better - thank you! Those photos are gorgeous @erasmus_gw. What zone are you in? How long has it been in your garden?

Thank you. I'm in zone 7a, NC. I don't remember when I bought this one. Probably about 8 years ago. It is in a crowded spot, so probably would be bigger in a better spot. I'd say it's a good rose.

1812 rose is Red Riding Hood not

Antique 98. So sorry to have given you hope for a better name.

I guess you are stuck with Antique 98
