Solid Surface Shower Base in NJ

I am having the hardest time finding anywhere in NJ that fabricates any version of a solid surface shower base. I am open to Corian or any type of engineered stone shower pan. Ideally I would like to find a gray color to coordinate with my bathroom color scheme - not a fan of white shower pans.

I need a 48"x32" alcove shower base with a single threshold and center drain.

I would like to find somewhere local so I can look at samples and possibly have them do the fabrication and installation as well. Shipping is VERY expensive due to weight so local would save hundreds of dollars.

Please let me know if there is anywhere in NJ that I should be looking.

FYI I have already checked out https://www.grifform.com/ and https://customshowerbases.com/ and www.kramershowerbases.com online and have a range of quotes from them.

    Thanks BeverlyFLADeziner

I am appreciate the links you provided but I was really hoping to find a solid surface fabricator in NJ.

As for the 4 suggested links, I have some info below might be helpful for anyone else looking at this thread for solid surface shower bases. Since I already did some research I'll add what I have found out below.

The Swiss Madison link is an acrylic pan, not solid surface. I am personally very much trying to avoid an acrylic pan.

The FlexStone that I have seen in person looks dated / unattractive to me – but that is totally subjective and I've only seen a couple examples in local showrooms. Of more concern is that from what I have read FlexStone isn't a true solid surface along the lines of Corian.

I have a sample of the Transolid gray (spoke with a rep at the parent company Trumbull Industries) and the material is okay. Structurally it reminds me of the Swanstone shower pans I have seen in a local warehouse. Their gray color looks more "greige" or warm gray, which unfortunately clashes with the tile I have otherwise this might be a back up plan if I can't find a solid surface fabricator.

Since last year (2020) Swanstone has had some very long lead times especially for certain colors. I have called a few companies near me that have direct contacts at Swan and for some colors there is a 16 week lead time. Also, most of the gray colors are very speckled / patterned which may not be ideal with my marble look porcelain tiles that also have pattern.

Any competent solid surface fabricator can make a shower base, however, if they don't do it on a production basis, they have to charge more, so there goes your shipping savings.

    Hi Joseph,
I’ve actually contacted a few solid surface fabricators in my area and they’re not willing to do a shower base at all. That is why I was asking if anyone is familiar with a fabricator in New Jersey that actually does shower bases out of any solid surface material.

My Transolid shower base is definitely not griege. It is in the swirly faux-marble pattern, though. Can you work with that in your plan?

    Hi Nancy in Mich

I really need a fairly solid color like some of the ones Corian offers. A few specks of color would be fine but I have tile that already has pattern in it so I need to keep the shower pan simple.

The gray color that I said looked "greige" was the one in the link BeverlyFLADeziner provided.

It is always good to look at the company website and see what colors are offered at the time you want to buy. Unless you know that a base one of us posts is this year’s model, you really don’t know what the color is. All of these companies will send you samples of a few colors that you are considering. You must order them and see them next to your tile, not rely on a picture when it comes to the tones in a color. I was fooled so many times looking only at the photos online at the company sites or from consumers.

You are right Nancy in Mich, that is exactly what I’ve been doing. Some companies make it easier than others to get samples but I have tons of them now.

I did find a company who said that they would fabricate a solid surface shower base from Corian and they are based in New Jersey.

Custom counters by precision in Passaic New Jersey.

Unfortunately their reviews online are not very good but I might go in and talk to them and see what kind of vibe I get.

Most people here seem to recommend Grifform for Corian shower bases, they are out West, so the shipping is expensive. I am also looking into Kramer in PA, the shipping would presumably be less to the east coast.

Just go to the Corian website and look at color and types, but get the 4" x 4" samples, not the smaller ones. It is ezpz to order them, I think I paid with Paypal. Corian sent me a bunch of samples for about $8...they are sitting on my desk as coasters ;-)

I'm in the same boat with a shower base. Did anyone get a good solutions?

I was looking for something similar, but in NC. My search failed and I ended up with a Kohler cast iron shower pan. I am happy with it. Kohler offers more than just white. I ordered directly from Kohler with a coupon code for the same price Build was charging except Kohler didn't charge for shipping.

My plumber suggested I look for an enameled steel shower pan as they are much lighter than cast iron, but those were all on eternal backorder too.

Has anyone used Kramer in NJ for shower base?

Do not go with customshowerbases.com no matter what. We recently ordered a custom shower base from this company based in Calgary. Their custom service was excellent until we fully paid for the order. Everything went downhill from that point.

    (1) Promised two weeks fabrication with additional rush charge, but it took FIVE weeks to get to us. No one updated us any of the delay in the meantime, until I called. I am pregnant and due in a couple of weeks, such delays are not acceptable!

    (2) Arrived product is flawed with extremely low flange height than indicated on their website and even lower than indicated on our custom drawing. This is a big deal, as any flange height lower than the threshold will cause water leak....they are supposed to be experts in this realm, oh well…

    (3) Base outside dimension is off by 1/4", more than their promised 1/8" tolerance. This is also a deal breaker, as this creates larger gaps around the base and our existing tile floor!

    (4) Arrived with minor chips on the corner, which is not a big deal.

With all the issues, they refused to send me a new one. If anyone is considering this company for any of their products, you know what to do....

From what I've been reading in this post, it appears that ordering a custom Corian shower base from Grifform, as excellent as their reputation is, will be very expensive. I am in the consultation stage of a primary bathroom remodel and searching for custom shower base fabricators in New Jersey, like the OP. My original preference is a Kohler cast iron base, so I was hapy to read the post by @justme, but I wanted to have an alternative because my designer says it makes her think of a hotel. What's wrong with that? It's MY hotel! LOL! I've had Kohler cast iron tubs in the past and also cast iron sinks and I absolutely loved them - in my opinion, there's nothing like cast iron for durability and good looks.
