common pruning rules would dictate that all dead wood be removed ... so get after it ..

a good pair of hand shears ... and maybe loppers will help ..

by the end of summer.. just decide if you have the patience to allow them to continue .. and if not.. then just get rid of them .. lifes to short to be pissed off about ugly plants in front of your house ..

its a question if how much of the root mass was damaged ... if little... you might be surprised how fast they can recover ... if the roots were damaged.. it might take longer than you want to recover ...

its probably wasnt the snow that caused this ... it was the temps.. but that is neither here nor there at this point ...

The bottom where it is alive was protected by the snow from the freeze. That looks like waxleaf ligustrum.

thats what i was thinking also ... snow is actually an insulator from the real cold of winter ...

but i had a hard time understanding that they got 6 inches of snow .. but hey.. TX is weird .. looking in by the rest of us.. lol ...

Thank you both ken_adrian and girlnamedgalez8a ….. I am going to have it pruned down a lot and give these bushes a chance. I am using superthrive once a month to help these as well.

Superthrive is a fairly high nitrogen fertilizer....I would feed once in the spring and again about 2 months later and no more.
