You know you're in trouble when...

.. a dear friend gives you a hosta with a tag that makes it very clear the folks who printed the tag and/or produced the plug just barely knew what a hosta actually is. The tag says: "Hosta plantaginea 'August Moon'", well sorry folks, 'August Moon is NOT out of H. plantaginea but it's a sieboldiana hybrid. The description on the back is not far off the mark actually but that's all a moot point when the plant in front of you is clearly some blue mini. Here's the tag:

... and this is the plant:

The plant was given to me a couple of years ago and its ID has thus far escaped me, but I must admit I haven't exactly gone out of my way either to find out what it was. A couple of weeks ago my friend asked me if I'd like an 'August Moon' and knowing she'd obtained a large assortment of plants from someone who did farmer's markets I figured sure, a chance to get the real thing. So, she comes with a number of plants one day about a week ago and sure enough, another one just like the one above was ID'd as 'August Moon' so I asked her where she got it, seeing as we both have the same NOID now. "Walmart", she said. Well, that explains it all, doesn't it....

Any guesses what we're dealing with? It's an enthusiastic grower, can't fault on that...

Pieter
