Seriously Stumped

last modified: 5 years ago

We had a slab of quartz (that matches our counters) put in behind our cooktop with plans to tile on either side. Unfortunately the slab backsplash is not centered over the cooktop and there's a myriad of reasons why. There are three base cabinets put together and the cooktop is centered over the middle one.

Problem #1: The left base is 1" smaller than the right base.

Problem #2 The uppers aren't centered over the base cabinets

Problem #3 Because of problem 1 & 2, the new backsplash slab is not centered over the cooktop although it fits snug in between the uppers.

I don't blame the countertop guys because they didn't have centered things to work with and honestly I really didn't know in the 15 yrs living with the old stuff how "off" everything was. So...back to the tile...on the left side I can fit six full 4" tiles but on the right I can only fit 5 full tiles and 3/4 of one. I'm seriously stumped. Should I just have cut pieces on the right side that doesn't match the left and call it a day?
