What will the addition look like?

Was thinking of doing a contrast color for the siding of the new extension part.

Why?

Not sure if this plan is finalized but I think I’d do some things differently. If it isn’t finalized and your open to some ( possibly big changes:) let us know...
Otherwise I would not do the siding in an accent color. Match it to the original.

I find it a good practice to make any addition to a house look as if it were built when the house was originally built. There are exceptions to this but it must be done carefully to avoid a train wreck. I would have to say a nearly white house with a blue addition has little chance of success. Seek competent professional assistance.

Does it have to be all siding in the front? What about some stone? Brick?

I agree with the other posters. A contrast colour will emphasize the difference between old and new house parts. Perhaps you might post your elevations and we can think how to get you some deep blue without ending up with a frankenhaus

thanks for all the opinions! the thought is in a few year we want to reside the whole house so if we do this extension first we just have the rest of the house to do down the line. I love the idea of stone or brick but its much more $$$

If you plan to redo in a few years... my advice would be to wait on the addition and do both together. For more than one reason.
Save up. And do the whole thing when you’re ready and able.
I know you didn’t ask. But I think a front porch would help with some of the symmetry...

Debra, it seems like the front door is going to be pretty recessed. Did you get a 3D so you can get an actual feel of walking from the garage to your front door? Of how it looks from the street?

@PPF. thanks for the drawing but we like how the roof is, since there will be a covered porch.

I’m a drop concerned about a different siding. But I hear why you’d want to do it now rather than add something and change it in a few years.
I think maybe you can try a different material. Like a flat , non textured stucco. But not sure that’s in the budget.
