Which kitchen island would be more timeless and beautiful over time?

The house being completely renovated and is located in a historic Detroit, MI community, near the water with more traditional styled buyers. The design of the house is transitional, scandinavian with white walls and pops of color in furniture, rugs, and pictures. Attached is the current kitchen layout which will not change much. All appliances will be professional grade (Viking & Wolf) stainless steel with cabinets to the ceiling and no closet.

The cabinets will be white with exception of the island (which I NEED YOUR HELP ON). The hardwoods will be a natural matte finish white oak as seen in the navy blue kitchen island photo. The room will be open to the family room.

I think any island that is a different color is going to be dated in 5 years. Like grey cabinets are to 2021, so mismatched islands will be to 2026. I think blue is already feeling past the style peak (in that, like, 75% of pass through visitors on this site are planning on doing it for their renos this year).

I think neither quite suit transitional/Scandinavian. If concerned about future traditional buyers, perhaps there could be a happy medium.

What vintage is the house?

Timeless is a pipe dream when it comes to kitchen design but I suggest "no island" should be an option.

Maybe makes me think of government cars and military uniforms. It's not my go to color. Wood is great.

I appreciate the responses and agree the blue will trend out @H202. @Maureen thank you for the additional pics I especially like the 1st photo with the wood island gold fixtures. If possible, could you share the link to the 1st picture so I can see if there are other angles?

We might recommend going for a simple style and design for the kitchen. If you are redoing the kitchen for yourself it can be whatever you choose however if you are doing it for resale we recommend going with something most people would like.

Since it’s a McGee and Company designed kitchen, you may have better luck going directly to their website to try and see various angles. Also try Pinterest, at least to help define a style, and then work out logistics around the design. Good luck.

The dark wood does not look Scandinavian to me, especially considering the base detail, but the dark blue does.

If, down the road, you want to change the color of the island, I think it would be easier to do with the blue one.
