curtain help!!!

Not sure what to do for curtains in our new home. Ceilings are 9ft. Window is 9ft wide. 108” curtains? How many panels? Another problem is the right end of the window overhangs the hearth of the fireplace. Thoughts??

What’s view outside the window going to be - street, country road, west or east? What’s your furniture style? All the points need to be factored in to your decision. But, based only on the fact that fireplace encroaches into path where drapes would need to hang & also the fact that hanging drapes will likely detract from the fireplace surround as well as make that side look too cluttered, I’d be looking at blinds, shades or shutters, whichever suits your style most & gives you the light or privacy control you’ll need. Whether the window treatments are inside mounted or ceiling level mounted depends on the finish around the window - a casement or no trim? And, with 9’ ceilings You can do ceiling level mount. So, you have many options, depending on the answers to many questions! Congratulations on your new home!

Our style is farmhouse. At this time we are probably just bringing the current disarray of furniture we have. The window is facing west so full afternoon sun. It country side. No roads. I think you’re right about shutters or shades or blinds.

So you’ll have a nice view out the window but do need to have light & heat control for afternoon sun. Maybe double treatments - inside mounted solar shades for the light & heat then outside mounted at ceiling level either a single Roman shade or wooden shades for the decor element. There are so many choices and colors for either type of shade and both will look great with farm house style. Another thing to consider is all or any other windows that can be seen when seeing this window - a single kind of window treatment for all of them looks best. Maybe they don’t all need solar shades though. And, with wooden blinds, other windows could have drapery panels on rods hung along with the blinds, as you’d have the common element of the blinds.

(Any chance the fireplace can be moved from the corner to the wall space on the right????)

    Nope. It is already bricked.

As others have noted, above, you cannot do drapes on your windows, given the location of the fireplace and hearth. I would do something very minimal, given your beautiful view. Very low profile binds/shades that can be drawn up to disappear. Nothing to obscure you view!

It is a beautiful view. I need something easy to open and close. I’m short so I will need a grabber or hook of some sort to pull them down.

@Johanna Mcbride Both Roman shades & wooden blinds have long pull cords to raise & lower but other options are out there. Cordless electric or roller type cords mounted to wall or inside the sill as well. Since you have an entire house of windows to dress, pay a visit to a window blinds showroom to familiarize yourself with all of the options. It’s amazing what’s out there! Be sure to inquire about discounts that might be available for buying all coverings from one dealer & also find out if they will come out to measure & if installation is included in the price. Even if you’re good at DIY, it’s worth it to have all those window coverings professionally installed! I speak from experience 😁
