Zone 4 Clematis pairing question

For those that are good with paring plants. I have pink Dianthus clumps in front that I will put near pavers. Anyone have suggestions what to put in between. those and the clematis? I have 2 Jackmanii and the other 2 other clematis are purple ones as well. Roses seems to pair with clematis maybe? The space is apprx 5x13 and would like to have something that would blooms after/before the clematis (not a hard requirement) but idea would be have constant blooming for the space during the season.
