Any photos of the kitchen? Single galley or double (6' I will assume single) 5 seems like the minimum so that 4 can aim at the counters and one on the blank wall to light art

Hallett & Co. this photo is for size reference only. It has been fully gutted and currently has nothing but walls and one hanging lightbulb. It will have white-ish cabinets (color is called melted Brie and it’s just a slightly less bright white) and counters/backsplash will be a white and gray quartzite.

Also, we will have task lighting running under the length of the wall cabinets.

Undercabinet lights will help- I would get a longer track with adjustable heads (versus what you have in this photo where they are fixed) and I would start with six bulbs and a dimmer... You really need the track to be at least 6' long with an eight foot space

Thanks for the tips. I was thinking about this light that has 5 rotating heads but maybe I should reconsider? I think the electrician installed dimmer switches for us already.

Are your new cabinets going all the way to the ceiling? In the photo above, I would have considered installing linear lights above the cabinets that bounce light off the ceiling for ambient light (having a light-colored ceiling would be essential).

You could also drop the ceiling slightly to make room for electrical conduit and pancake junction boxes--it wouldn't have to be a lot. But that ship may have sailed if you've already ordered cabinets that go to the ceiling.

Yes we discussed dropped the ceiling but ultimately decided that in a small apt with two children well rake all the cabinet space we can get. Cabinets will go to the ceiling even if I have to store out of season clothes or extra toilet paper up there lol. City living.

I hope yours is centered between the two cabinet faces... (it looks off center in photo) I would buy track and heads separately- even big box stores have it this way- far more flexibility for little more cost

Depending on the height of the ceiling you could also suspend the fixture.
