Also, I know you said no geometric, but if you are not going to go urban, I really like the idea of a distinctly non urban green with your herringbone floor, which I think demands some structure in what you choose for the walls. I like your vibrant pink flowers but worry that in your space it winds up too far from the charcoal floor, with the white wainscotting in between, to have the same effect as the photo. The wallpaper you‘re considering with huge flowers on a black background have the right drama, but I didn’t care for the pops of yellow in the design. I think the floaty all gray floribundas are not strong enough for the floor.

Greens don’t have to be this strong (and these are expensive) but if you haven’t looked at florals and designs with green in them, might be a great foil for your charcoal to make the space pop.

Also, would you like the last flower one if I painted the wainscot dark like the picture shows?

there are so many great choices.

if you like the last one, why not do the one sink wall, leave the wainscot, and paint the other walls a soft sage color?

if you want to do all the walls, then you could do the wainscot in a darker grayish sage

If you picked something dark like these, I'd paint you ceiling a satin black

Makes perfect sense. It helps if you can find a picture with it on the wall with other objects in the room for scale

Love Wrought Iron! It's what I have in my current powder room. I think doing the wainscot in that color with one of the florals would be awesome!

You can't go wrong with navy grasscloth. I have red grasscloth in my tiny powder room and I love it!

I didn’t see your other question about using the vibrant pink flowers if the wainscotting was charcoal...

Would you paint just the wainscotting Wrought Iron, or the vanity as well?

(Also, just as a note, I don’t think grasscloth is a good investment for guest bathrooms)

To me your herringbone floor has the wonderful characteristic of being like a walkway. The pattern makes me feel like I am traveling to another dimension, and the very white of the vanity and walls shows off the floor pattern. very clearly. I don’t know what I would feel if the wainscotting was the same color as the floor or black. Then the room would become all about the wallpaper, I think. If the vanity remained white but the lower walls charcoal, that would be another visual experience.

You may have already decided on the peonies, but I’m going to put up some other wallpapers I think either are fun, or warm, or mysterious, or give a fresh feeling (What kind of a mirror are you planning on — or are you waiting for the wallpaper?)

Ital, thank you again for your insight. I have not picked a mirror yet, but I was imagining either an oval, arched or something like the one in Beth's tea rose wallpaper Inspiration pic below the wrought iron door. If I did paint the wainscot the wrought iron, I would leave the vanity color as is. But I have definitely not committed to anything! I find the multicolor floral ones refreshing and fun, but some of them are a bit too bold for me. I am probably overthinking this, but trying to strike that balance of classy/timeless, but not too traditional, while still being fun...

I would probably wait until I’d picked a wallpaper to decide on the mirror and sconces but I think judging the wallpaper does mean envisioning how much of it will be obscured by the mirror. One of the ones I posted I think I would match with a huge round mirror and maybe add a shelf to the room — I’d want the wallpaper to be an abstract background —, others I’d want a smaller mirror and give people a chance to see the details of the wallpaper.

Lots of powder rooms I’ve stepped into are really very different from the decor and color palette of the rest of the house and it’s great, others are very much part of the whole house, and that’s great too. I do think a powder is one of the few places in a house where people are right up close to the walls, so figuring out how a wallpaper will look given the limited amount of size of your powder rooms is interesting, and only you know what it’s like to stand inside that space.

You did a great job with the floor so you’ve set yourself a challenge literally topping yourself. ;)
