Are you watering 1 inch all at one time or 1/7-inch every day?

Have you used any fertilizer, insecticide, or herbicide this season? If so, what did you use? And if you fertilized, did you water it in immediately after applying?

Scott's Halts Weed and Crabgrass Preventer along with Lesco's 19-0-0 was applied in early May.

They were not immediately watered in.

I watered the lawn for the first time when I saw the purple yew color in the lawn.

My watering schedule is 3 times per week for a total of 1".

Another interesting fact is the lawn in this area went to seed.

I'm going to suggest it is fertilizer burn from not watering in the Lesco product. When you water in the fertilizer, it dissolves into a weak solution of salty fertilizer water and sinks into the soil to the roots. When you don't water it in, the next morning dew dissolves the fertilizer into a highly concentrated salty liquid sitting on the blades of grass near the crown of the grass. That concentrated salt water burns the plant.

Your watering schedule should be more like once a week for a total of 1 inch. And really, at this time of year it should be more like once every 2 or 3 weeks if you don't have rain. We've been blessed with rain in the Texas Hill Country, so I'm not planning to water until July even with our temps in the 80s. That could change if we get some very dry air and wind to evaporate the soil. When our air dries out the temps usually get into the low 100s, and that's not forecast.

OrpitaGhosh, if you are asking me about fertilizer, yes, I use alfalfa pellets (rabbit chow) and ordinary corn meal as fertilizer for the lawn.
