is Sargent Cherry fruit edible?

Sargent Cherry is a flowering, ornamental cherry from Japan. I took above pix of fruits today. Honestly, they looked so tempting I started eating them and found them really juicy but quite tart. Is there ay reason I cannot collect lots of them, remove the stone, add sugar and make jam or relish or something?

I wouldn't worry. The pit/seeds of most stone fruits contain cyanide - other than sweet almonds that were bred to remove it!

It's not poisonous, and you can eat it if you want, but it likely will not taste that good. (Do not eat the seeds, of course)

Ornamental Japanese flowering cherries are very closely related to their edible European cousins (sweet cherry). They are almost just different subspecies.
