Help with cedar-sided garage

We had a garage built 3 or 4 years ago. It has cedar siding that we stained with a solid stain. it is not insulated, there is plywood under the cedar.

The ground around the garage wasn't sloped properly and comes right up to the bottom of the shingles. In a hard rain and in spring melt, we get some water seeping into the garage.

We ordered some 1/4 down crushed limestone for another project and had some left over. My husband wants to put the limestone against the cedar siding and to slope it down away from the garage.

I'm worried the stone will wick water into the wood if it is touching the wood. Is this a thing or should we do this?

thanks for any advice.
