Just a guess: Eurydema oleracea? (Nymph.)

Legs of insect pictured above are entirely wrong for a shield bug, as Jinx suggests.

The insect is more beetle-ish.

But blur, tough angle, and lack of thorax and antennae details make this hard to ID.

Some weevils have a very short snout, consider that.

I don’t agree with The Logician’s post. There are nymphs that look like this. But I still can’t say for sure.

Hopefully an expert sees this.

Ok, that picture reminds me of Euphoria basalis! A beetle, as Logician said. I was wrong. :)

It does look very similar. The markings are a tad different but I've looked at many photos and the variations are frequent. Except for variations in the markings, everything else seems identical with Euphoria basalis.

Another suggestion someone made is Valgus hemipterus. What about that?

It has Flower Chafer (a Scarab beetle) written all over it.

@jinx: If the image reminded you of E. basalis off the top of your head, you are much more familiar with beetle species than I am! E. basalis has only one image submitted to bugguide and its US range is just Texas. I did do a thorough search of all the Euphoria species, and some did look similar to the Parker image. Your correct subfamily ID did help narrow the search.

I do prefer Valgus hemipterus (suggested above) for the ID.
