First off I want to compliment you on pulling this buffet/ hutch combo off so well. To keep the clean lines I would just add a pop of color with a pair of modern vases in varying heights but just on one side of the buffet and maybe stack a couple books on the other end. But make sure you it doesn't look too busy. If it does then I would just keep the vases. Hope this helps.

I didn't even think of a feature wall! I usually avoid them because they take over the space in small rooms but I really think it would work here! I intend to re-paint anyway so ill definitely do that! Thanks guys! Sometimes you just need a fresh perspective!
Attached a photo of the entire space so you can all get a bit more understanding. The banquette has a back to go on it still & then art to go above it.

Lovely! Painting the wall behind it will add depth to the room. It doesn't have to be red or orange or teal (just to name a few), a grey will do that too. Perhaps you can pick a colour from the art that goes above the banquette.

Suburb job. The hutch is the "hit"! But you guys decide what your focal point is. You said your room is small. Right? Like mentioned above I keep any additional interest points, soft to the eye. And maybe place a single ply buff or wheat toned rug starting from the hutch to the opposing wall (under the talbe and chairs) It will connect the room together. Grass cloth will give a lived in look; modern and inviting. Wonderful hutch...

I'd suggest color for the entire room. It doesn't have to be dark of too wild (although my personal taste would dictate that if it were my room. Some artwork would brighten the room and add additional color.

Or, if you like graphic, paint all the walls a warm tan/beige and then hang a series of cool black and white images with large white mats and black frames. I'd say at least thee vertical pieces above the banquette.

One more thing. Would you be able to install an pendant fixture above the table? The room needs light, but it looks like the house may be old. Messing with plastered ceilings isn't fun. If you can't do a pendant, maybe there is room for a fly-over lamp on the other side of the banquette?

Pendant light is on the to do list ;) It's a definite must have! Just debating on whether we are going to switch to an oval table first.

Given that I love a good 'Cover' (a new take on something old - hence the modern buffet hutch) I've been inspired to do a Baroque / Damask patterned feature wall behind the buffet using either stencils or decals.
I had the intention or re-painting the entire house beige...so I'll either do a lighter shade or darker shade for the pattern over the top... or if I can convice my bf to be brave I'm thinking maybe silver?

Or how about a gloss for the pattern...

I'm in the Netherlands and there's a paint company here that makes a clear gloss for the walls to get this effect. Not sure if there's something like that where you are. But you could use a gloss version of the same paint.

HI -- Love the clean lines - brilliant idea --- maybe just add a texture wallpaper on that wall , something modern . --- muralunique.com ---- look at the textures like the concrete or the metal . Concrete is very "now" and modern .
