What hosta is it, do you know? Many people on the forum grow their minis in groupings in pots. But then you have the issue of overwintering them. I have a number of the mouse ears series planted in the ground. I don’t do anything special. sometimes if the squirrels are digging at them, I surround them with stones. haha haha!! Anyway, after the third year, I would dig it out and check the roots and plant it in a pot for the summer according to it’s light requirments and nurse it along. Also Also, with minis it is veryeasy to plant them too deep. Make sure the little ”hairs” at the base of the plant aren’t under cover. Those are from where last years leaves were attached. they should always be visible. I know it’s difficult, because thereis so little space between the hairs and the roots.

Third year for my "Hands Up" and it's still only two eyes. I usually blame my alkaline soil because they take a bit longer to get going. I don't know if that's the case with you, but it seems to be very slow. I would guess the same as Praying Hands can be slow because of so little leaf area to take in the sun.

Djacobs, the hosta is Hands up. Ill check the depth. Even if i planted them correctly, the leaves and mulch may be overwhelming them.

Sandyslopes, that makes sense woth them being slow because of the keaf size

Whip1, hahaha——-I thought you were saying Hands Up like “i give up.” Duh Duh. yes i recall that hands up is similiar to Praying Hands. I have PH. It took at least 5-6 years for mine to look good. Leaf size absolutely makes sense…..never thought of that.

Ill leave it be for now if they take that long to start growing.

This is the third year for this plant and it hasn't grown at all.

dig it up.. beat it on a tree.. scrape the roots gently on pavement.. leave it laying on the driveway for a while ... [not in hot sun...] and pot it up .. replant in late august ..;.

just how much patience can you have ... teach it who is in charge around there ...

and all the better if it dies ... who needs an under-performing POS .. when the space can be used for something that actually wants to grow ...

Mine's slow growing as well, after 5 years I counted 7 shoots yesterday. I put up with it because if its texture and appearance, like a Sansevieria laurentii.

Ken, when it comes to plants, im bery patient. Other thing in life, not so much. I think at the end of the day, youre right. It grows or it gets replaced.
