Aloe striata is used in a lot of hybrids. I have a spotted one also that I suspect is a hybrid of it.

I just submitted a responce that did not succeed so here goes again. Here are some photos ofsome spoteed and non spotted A. striata. I suspect that the spotted has somethingelse in its heredity. It has been raining cool and cloudy non-stop so no sunburn onme or my aloes. This shouyld change soon. Does your plant have some stipes and a marginal edge instead of teeth? Sadly I killed the parent of the spotted by building a house and ignoring all my plants . I left them in the woodshop without sun or water and they still lived. No thanks to me. This is them with 2 months of recuperation.

@wantonamara Z8 CenTex My plant is missing the edges so I discounted it being a striata. I think you might be right it is a hybrid.

A well watered plant will turn pink in strong sun. . The leaves on a water starved plant turns a laeathery straw and shrinks in its drynes.s . Totally different.

How hot is it in the summer there? I do once a week water in summer here in Texaas and it is usually upper 90's - 105 in JUly- August. They shut down in that heat and they will not take in the water even if I give it to them. Easier to kill an aloe with too much than too litlle.

@wantonamara Z8 CenTex it doesn’t get that hot here. Mostly 80’s, sometimes 90’s

An aloe will feed off the stored water in their leaves when they are water starved. It takes a LONG TIME to kill an aloe by not watering. Much quicker to kill it by watering too much. Please don't ask how I know this. If I answer ; you will turn me in for plant abuse.

FWIW my Aloe aristatas turn pinkish when I put them out in the sun in the spring.

I have one much bluer and solid in color. I keep it shaded so not to burn it. Didn't know they could take full sun. This has been a good read for me.

It is getting way too big for me to properly care for this. Hard to winter over in my basement.
