That really doesnt look like amethyst mist. Are you sure?

I was thinking right on the base of the tree wasn't ideal?

The big one came labelled as Amethyst Mist ... I suppose that doesn't mean the baby is true to seed, since most plants aren't, but the leaves seemed to be the same general color. Or are you saying my big one was mislabeled? It game from a local garden club sale, so it's possible that they got its name wrong, but usually they just leave them as NOIDs unless they know the name of the variety. What is it if not Amethyst Mist?

I used to have one, it was gorgeous...it was much more red than yours.

I also do not believe the 'mother' plant is Amethyst Mist. Yours does not show either the coloring or patterning of that cultivar. FWIW, relying on the accuracy of labeling of plants offered at a garden club sale is fraught with risk. For one, many do not realize that seed grown offspring of any hybrid plant cannot legitimately be referred to by that cultivar name and that heucheras are for the most part self sterile so require a a second unrelated plant to produce seeds. Virtually ALL hybrid heucheras are commercially propagated by tissue culture.

What it may be is up for grabs. It could also be a seed raised plant.

There's no problem with its growing at the base of the tree, after all its chosen that spot for preference. I like the woodsy look.

I wanted it for being a pretty dark colored heuchera, as i was buying shade plants that year (also picked up some nice looking, though nameless, hosta and mini hosta for a few dollars each). I was willing to believe that this was named Amethyst Mist, since it has a purple cast to it, particularly the undersides, but I didnt really investigate for confirmation.

I'm sure the baby came from that one, though if heuchera are self-sterile, I guess the other parent could be either the heucherella or the nameless green heuchera we have ... beyond that, it would have to be from pretty far away, as none of my close neighbors have heuchera. I guess I'll have to wait and see what it looks like!

I'd believe that it was a seedling rather than a division, and someone just labelled it the same as its mother plant ... so I guess I might have a second and now third generation.
