I've been thinking Diver Down's blooms were much larger than the registered 6 inches, so I measured them yesterday afternoon. I was right. All three were wider in diameter than 7 inches. This is a sun shot of one of the blooms.

The rain is a plague needed, but a plague when you want to take photos, Debra you have some gorgeous blooms in spite of the rain and the seedlings are the prettiest. I too am very impressed with Kara Louise. It is such a vibrant red. that white seedling is gorgeous! The Dancing Flamingo and the Dearest Valentine kids were so pretty, but I am with your husband on the Sweet Parie Wind kid. I like the color, the shape, the edge, all of it. It is the winner of all of them for me

you, I think I like the looks of Diver Down a little better from pics. I saw Woman in Red pictured somewhere and wrote that down. Of course, since you day Diver Down is more than 6" that may give it an edge. Your Dancing Flmingo Seedling really grabbed my interest

Is the picture of the Dancing Flamingo Kid the same as the DF X hybrid "in the sun"? I like the pink color on both, but prefer the second picture for form.......I like your white simple one too. A clump of that in the early border landscape would look good I'm thinking...........Maryl

Nancy - Both Kara Louise and Diver Down have very nice blooms. Kara Louise gets the edge from me because it's the registered height, and Diver Down is a little shorter than it should be. Also it galls me that Diver Down was registered as having a white edge, but you can see from my photo that the edge is both white and gold. I do love that white watermark on DD, and it was very pod and pollen fertile last year, while Kara Louise could not hang on to pods in the heat. Also, Kara Louise is a bit better budded than Diver Down. Both kay and I have posted photos of Lady in Red. It's beautiful too, but blooms and scapes are not as large as registered for me.

Maryl - I have pictures of three different Dancing Flamingo seedlings on this thread, and that's confusing. Two are from the same cross with a UF that I do not want to name in public. The one that looks most like a UF is in the initial post (Dancing Flamingo kid). The sibling is in the comments post as "in the sun". (I probably could have made it less confusion by posting those two together.) The color and form of the those is different. The third is Dancing Flamingo x Bubblegum Delicious, which is rounder and has a white edge. It was also described as "in the sun". I love the one you're talking about because of the colors. It's very tropical looking. The form doesn't do much for me, and I wish it had UF form. The third one from that cross is going to bloom later. Maybe I'll get the color I prefer WITH the form I want on that one.

The near white UF is very simple, with an old-fashioned look. But it does look super in a clump, and it opens well no matter how cool the temperature is. As you can see, it's rainproof. I will be introducing that one next year. I'll let you know the name once it's approved.

Debra, to tell the truth, I like both of them, but I think the 2nd slightly more, just looks more unusual.

I think the Dancing Flamingo x Bubblegum Delicious (in the sun) looks very good. Are all those buds on the same planting or different plantings? Dancing Flamingo seedling looks good also in the sun. You've got some winners in the group.

Boy, can I ever relate to that rain issue! I think most of my photos this year will have raindrops on them!

I like all the seedlings. Kara Louise did hold up well in the rain. The white one does indeed laugh at the rain!

Julia - All those buds belong to Dancing Flamingo x Bubblegum Delicious. One of the reasons I took that photo was just to show how many buds it has. And I couldn't even get all the buds in the frame. That's the seedling that has 10 fans now.

Love the Sweet Prairie Winds seedling ! Yowza it's a looker ! is there a reason you dont want to name the "UF that I do not want to name in public" now you have me curious.....really curious .

Heather - I often don't name both parents because I don't want other people to repeat the cross. I reigister seedlings and sell the intros. It's a proprietary thing. I'm glad you like the Sweet Prairie Wind seedling.

That makes sense Debra and very smart of you to do that . I haven't done much hybridizing so would never have thought of that . Of course with your experience of also having your original daylily name you chose for Valentine Dearest being used by someone else would also be a good reason to not put a name out there.
