Prior to my recent divisions and moves, I had three of these in various locations. I was even thinking of them as different varieties, but now that I've moved them and paid more attention to them, they all appear to be the same. I probably divided the original plant when I purchased it, and forgot that I had done that. Until recently I was even considering one of the plants to be a volunteer seedling; that one has thrived more than the others and is apparently just better sited.

What a coincidence that you posted today, as I was planning to post a NOID query thread for what I think might be the same hosta as yours.

Mine is a division given to me by a friend 10 to 12 years ago. I've divided it many times since then.

Hopefully someone will be able to identify yours, and also advise if they think mine is the same one.

I thought the same as ken. Leaf size is not quite the same.

Thanks bkay, Blue Cadet is what I was thinking. The name is familiar too.

I checked a few leaves in the yard and counted anywhere from 8 to 10 veins, depending on the leaf. Not sure what to make of that.

Somewhere I found a list of 4 hostas similar to Blue Cadet. None seemed any closer to my plant; Blue Boy seems a bit like Chick's.

Sounds like you have a name to go with your blue hosta, Ben D It's so similar to mine, at first glance, but I guess not the same afterall.

Checking the Hosta Library, Blue Boy is a contender for mine, though some sites say it will grow to 45" wide, and mine doesn't seem to want to get much wider than maybe 15", so that doesn't seem quite right. Guess I'll keep researching.

Just a note, plant size can be affected by many things: light, water, soil, (I know you know this), but the big one is tree roots. I have a red maple and I am sure there are a number which haven’t reached there full size because of the maple roots. So you maybe have a BB underperforming like some of mine.

Debra, oddly enough, the best performer is sitting right next to a big hemlock. But this one also has a downspout directed towards it, and does not have ground cover around it like the others.

My hostas are definitely competing with maple, oak and lilac roots, so maybe my hosta is Blue Boy afterall, and is just under-performing. Possibly also my dividing it has kept it smaller. Will see what happens over the next few years. And for now I'll pencil in it's name as Blue Boy.
