If you paint the cabinets, you will substantially shorten their usable life. They will show fingerprints, and the paint could chip and show wear. If it were my home, I would leave the cabinets and floors as they are. The hardwood floors in the dining area are lovely, and I see no benefit from installing an LVT floor adjacent to them. From what little I can see of your appliances, your kitchen accent color should be black or stainless steel. I will assume it is black since your dishwasher is black. i would update the window coverings on the patio door and the kitchen window, install new black hardware on your cabinets to match your appliances, install an updated black light fixture in the dining area, and buy a new cabinet to update that cabinet in the corner of the dining area.

We have all spent too much time at home. We all need a change. Go buy a new dress. Go on a short road trip. Painting your cabinets correctly is expensive. A better use of your money would be new flooring to exactly match the adjoining room, not LVT, which will clash and look cheap. My daughter moved into a house with painted cabinets. The painters had used inappropriate paint and it was already chipping and touched up. It seemed each day brought new chips although she and her husband were very careful. If you really want painted cabinets, gut your kitchen and buy factory painted cabinets ( not this year because of shortages and long delays in supply chain).

And if they get painted, what does this open us up to for LVT floor-which will cover the whole main living area with that honey oak trim?

Not sure I understand correctly but I would not replace hardwood with LVT. It's a house devaluing move. Echo the advice above about painting the cabinets. More trouble than it's worth. Your cabinets look great with the light counters. In any case, important to know the order for choosing elements: paint is chosen last as it comes in an practically infinite number of colours and can be matched to anything. Permanent fixtures and textiles are chosen first as their selections are limited. I'd love the see your kitchen with the White Dove walls. Decor does wonders for a space so switching up hardware, lighting and other impermanent elements is a good idea.

Were you looking at LVT because you must replace the kitchen floor?

I don’t like oak cabinets generally but yours look nice with the black appliances and the white countertops. However, I would get new hardware. Go with the same finish on your faucet and the pulls for your dishwasher. I’m never crazy about cubbies, but I wouldn’t be able to talk my husband out of removing one as useful as yours over the coffee pot. However, I might amuse myself getting peel-stick wallpaper and refinishing just the cubbies — and if I didn’t like it, I’d peel it off. I’d definitely need more inspiring coffee cups in there

If ypu aremt painting the oak trim, then that doesnt really open up the floor colors you can use.

Its really hard to tell from pictures of flooring what would wokr, we need to see a sample of the floor nest to the trim in your home.

Can you explain the flooring, it looks like yoi have wood now in the dining room. are you replacing that?

I also agree with the others not to paint the cabinets unless you are opn to pitting the work in. I did 6 cabinet doors in my bathroom and probably had 20 hours into prepe, sanding, painting painting. it sucked!

I edited my post to say Kitchen, DR, LR floors are all being replaced to one cohesive floor. It has to be LVT ---> waterproof. It has been difficult finding a LVT floor, color & tone, to work with the oak. I am becoming the punch line to jokes about picking a floor. I don't want dark floors.

For the flooring, I think you want to stay as neutral as possible, not too cool, not too warm. From what I've seen online, this isn't easy. Of the two options you posted, the top one might be too similar to your honey oak trim. Hard to know without seeing the two together. Bring home as many samples as you can. Wish I could offer specific options.

As for the verticals, I replaced my verticals with curtains in our family room and it was a headache in a half and $$$. I've regretted the change more than once (sshh, don't tell my partner...). No other window treatment offers the privacy and light control blinds do. At least, I haven't found another option. The design world can be quick to gang up on certain things and deem them ugly but it doesn't always offer a satisfactory replacement in terms of functionality. How often do I gush over kitchen pics only to realize it has zero window treatments? :P Not the most practical thing for my life. :)
