I, personally, don't (at least not yet). But a family member uses them for a few of her trees and they always seem to grow better. I've wanted to, especially for my big Nagami, but the lack of physical structure makes me nervous with the trees in a living room.

I have to say that smart pots aren't the best for a living room setting. It doesn't look all that good and I find that watering tends to be messy. I have to water in the shower and put it in a saucer afterwards.

Do you grow the chicago Hardy fig? I got one potted and curious about it.

When a tree growing in a small container becomes root bound, the growth habit becomes straight up like tooth paste squeezed out of the tube. Might look like more growth, but misfocused growth.

Kevin, I've noticed the same. Hence why I'm sticking with ceramic for now. The weight is attractive for me as my largest tree is so heavy that it is difficult to move even on large wheels. My relative just picks theirs up and moves them when needed. I've considered a couple options to use a similar type pot. I like the idea of placing them inside a larger pot for watering, but I think that would get rough for the big trees, especially in summer.

I use the rootmaker 7 gallon size for my smaller citrus then place them into 1/2 wine barrels when they get larger.

Kevin, I use to use thos ebut found I would tear apart lots of roots when re potting that would stick. NOw I use the root maker ones. I love these.
