I would recommend going with a light color for the walls as it has not windows to bring in natural light, so you don't want to go with something dark. With the tile that you have selected I think doing an white wall will be the best. Maybe something along the lines like this BEHR PREMIUM PLUS 730A-1 Smart White Paint. Something in that shade family of that.

The tile is a classic choice and would be well suited for any color wall. Do you have a color scheme going throughout your home. If so I recommend going with a light color that stays in that color scheme or stick with white. Even though storage is an issue I would still remove the cabinet above the toilet and use a linen tower that fits in that space to the left of the toilet. You could get a wood one to tie in cabinets in kitchen.

Are you keeping the cabinet that's above the toilet? You could wallpaper just the inset panels on the cabinets, I think that would be fun without being overwhelming.

Unless there is something very wrong with the sink I would keep it.

Personally I would go with a basketweave tile on the floor. and paint everything in the tiny room white.

The pandemic has made people more desirous of throw-away towels in powder rooms, instead of shared towels, so I’d shrink the mirror so you can include an obvious place for disposable towels.

I think the vanity lights go with the sink, so I’d keep those too unless they are grotty.

I like the floor tile. If you get a smaller mirror or a medicine cabinet, I think you should move the outlet for wall sconces. I think the light is much nicer on either side of the face. Think about doing a dramatic color on the ceiling, like pink. With white walls I think it would be pretty and cheery. Also a nod to the old bath.

I'm new to the Houzz forums (I usually just browse pictures), but I say listen to Beth H. lol! Beth, your design aesthetic/ideas are brilliant from the few posts I've read in which you've commented.

Anyway, I agree with replacing the sink, mirror, and light fixtures. I'm on the fence about the over-the toilet cabinet and whether it should be kept, completely removed, or just replaced with something a little different. I have one in my upstairs bathroom that is actually partially recessed into the wall so it's less obtrusive while still maintaining storage over the toilet. It's actually one of my favorite things about the bathroom. (I added a picture of how it looks.)

I don't think you should go all white on the wall color. I think it's boring and too sterile. Even though it's a small room with no windows, if you get good, bright light fixtures (in the 900+ lumens ball park and a bulb color of bright white (not soft white or daylight --- should be something like 2500 Kelvin maybe?) the darker accent color or even a wallpaper accent wall won't make the space feel small. I do also like wainscoting, which can help to break up a darker wall color. A lot of the ideas Beth shared above are things that I personally like.

Thank you all sooooo much! Yes, the sink is going as is the the light fixture. The toilet eventually. We're on a budget (redoing the kitchen at the same time which is $$$$ and had some surprises after the old kitchen was torn out so our powder room budget fell). I had planned to do subway tile on the walls, but unfortunately that budget had to go to fix the surprises. We are replacing the doors on the cabinet which will be full overlay. They will be shaker doors painted white. We use that too much to not keep it! We had the pleasure of meeting the person who grew up in this house beginning in 1957 through the last remodel which was done by his parents in 1983. The sink/light/paint was done then, but he said he remembered the cabinet being there growing up so it at least pre-dates 1957. My next question will be what paint color to do on the walls of our original 1941 baby blue and pink bath! I can't wait to hear your input!

I like all of Beth's ideas. I love the shape of your sink, but if it's formica, I think it needs to go. Since it's a powder room, I would "embrace the darkness" and paint it a dark color. Paint the cabinet the same color. We have a small guest bathroom tucked under our stairs that we painted a very dark gray. It feels cozy and private in there. I love the tile you've chosen, and you could go with any color on the walls because of the great tile. Mid tone shades are also trending right now; I'm slightly obsessed with Farrow and Ball's Dead Salmon. Look how great it looks with black and white!
