Trimmer will not run

Last time I cut the yard, my grandsons help. The older one I got doing the trimming while I worked with the younger one mowing the front yard. As we were finishing the front yard, the older one came up and said the trimmer just stopped. I noticed that the choke was set to half so assumed it was out of gas. Since it was the older one turn on the mower I put the trimmer in the shed to work on later.

The Trimmer: Cub Cadet BC5090 4-CYCLE, used about an hour every two weeks for the last 8 years during the summer. There have been no problems with it until this last event.

Problem: When I tried to start the trimmer to do some additional cutting, I could not get it to run. It would start, run a couple of seconds and die.

Any suggestions of where to start troubleshooting would be appreciated. However I suspect the plug is gummed up because of running the engine running for a period rich. (half choke)
