I have no idea what you are asking as far a counters there are many white granites .I certainly would not bother to spend the money on raising a ceiling 12" but I need more info

There are lots of possiblilities in your kitchen. I can see that the back splash could be changed to white and the cabinets could be painted. The cabinets look off white in the photos. Is that correct?

Do you want a redesign or are you looking to improve what is already there? You have room to raise your cabinets, but do you have room to put in a larger stove and wall ovens?

That is a big and $$$ reno list. Change the things that really bother you and keep the rest. Many of us would be very happy with that kitchen.

Can we start at the beginning?

Figure out your reno budget for the whole house.

Find out the cost for changing each item.

Decide how to use your budget to make the changes you can afford to do.

Designing one room at a time can send you into a rabbit hole of having to make changes to everything else in the home or render results that are undesirable.

Your goal is to have a cohesive home and make reasonable updates to make it more to your liking within your budget.

There are dozens of posts where people have remodeled one room only to have it stick out like a sore thumb.

This is from just a few days ago where the OP wanted a white on white kitchen. Her issue is simply with flooring and the white on the bar being too white, but it will be costly to remedy.

I didn't say I want to raise the ceiling. I want to raise the height of the cabinets to 9 feet, so that I can still have my display on top. I want regular/normal cabinets with display windows. My intention is to take everything off the wall and begin again. The photos I showed you are somewhat deceiving. The cabinets are made of plastic. I have never seen this anywhere in all my 69 years. The cabinets are also beat up and bruised in lots of places. I want to install gas.

Forget about painting plastic cabinets. You need a redesign, and you would be wise to get a kitchen designer to help. Or, you could draw out the space on a piece of paper with a grid. That might give you an idea of the square footage available. Then you can see if the appliances you want will fit. A kitchen designer is a pro at this, so it is up to you how you approach it.

Agree with others about hiring a KD. One question - do you have kids, a messy SO, and/or cook a lot? I ask because you may not realize how much your current granite hides - fingerprints, water droplets, etc.

In our old house, we had something similar to what you have in your house now. Our new house has gorgeous white quartz with a little bit of grey veining. And I HATE it because it shows literally every little crumb, every water drop, every swipe line of a towel. That might be totally fine for you, but I offer it as a warning before you make a final decision.

Thank You Elisejames. It is a great space. We have only one son who is an adult, so he is not an issue. We do like to cook, me during the week and and my husband on weekends. That said this is 2nd home for us.

Your list is too long for us to help you - as mentioned, a KD in person would benefit this project. Also work on your communication skills - a miscommunication in a kitchen reno will cost you time and money. So do not assume that a sentence like what you wrote ”The height now is 8ft, I will raise it to 9ft.” will have people understanding you meant your cabinetry, not your ceiling. You never mentioned you were referring to the height of your upper cabinets.

Yes M. Miller, I do have a KD. That said, that should not preclude me from entering into discussion with people who are not professionals. Or is this section only for professionals??

What I think I understand is that you want to keep the current footprint of the kitchen.

You want to put in double wall ovens somewhere.

The cabinets are plastic but you don't want to replace lowers - just the uppers.

You want to spray paint the lowers.

The uppers will be replaced with taller cabinets.

The counter will be replaced with a quartzite or granite, and you want that to be white.

You want to remove the current sink in the island and replace with a vessel sink (sink sitting on top of the counter instead of recessed.

Is this an accurate description of what you want to do?

I am trying to figure out what the OP wants, but having a lot of trouble deciphering what she wrote. Like Jennifer Hogan, I will take a stab at it:

There are several white granites and quartzites, but I'd advise you to do a lot of research, because some (but not all) of those stones are stain-prone. Some of the whiter quartzites are actually marble and behave like marble in the way of etching and stains. I suggest you look at Alaska White granite to start; it is easy care, tough and beautiful.

I want one old fashioned stove as a talking point, but I also want a wall oven, warming drawer.

So you want a range as a "focal point" (not talking point) - what size? 30" wide, 36" wide, 48" wide? You will also need to install a hood exhaust over it. I see you don't have one currently, but indoor air quality is more important than before, and now some building codes even require it. You want a single wall oven (not double wall oven), correct? Regarding the warming drawer, I suggest you install it directly under the counter, rather than under the wall oven. When warming drawers are installed under a wall oven, they end up not getting used because they are too low.

Try as I might, I do not know what you mean. Is it copper or is it brass? I think you mean copper. A "sit on top sink" - what is that? Do you mean a surface mount sink? An apron front sink? I don't think you mean a vessel sink because those are not for kitchens. Can you provide a picture of a sit on top sink?

Does this mean you are keeping the island cabinetry? If so, spraying on paint has a lot of problems with chipping and bleed-through. It's not just a simple spray and it's done. Be careful with this. Also, isn't the island cabinetry already white? And what will you do with the appliances that are in the island now?

I want to install gas.

This requires a gas line, and may be complicated or not, depending on what you already have in place. But you will definitely need to add a hood exhaust if you are replacing your electric cooktop with a gas cooktop. Most people would rather update to an electric induction cooktop or range. Do research on induction cooktops, and I think you will prefer it to running a gas line and buying a gas cooktop or range.

WI do appreciate all the comments. I think it might be easier if we talk about the kitchen island first. Kinldly look again at the top photo which is the kitchen island. The granite is Venetian Gold (an old granite) but definitely still good. I have seen some that have aged badly in that they look smeared. My counter top is not like that. The length of the countertop is 13 feet. It is curved. At the moment, it is a deep chocolate brown. My intention with the island is to spray it white on the side which faces the family/tv area. I want to cut the granite and put in a hammered brass sink with a brass faucet. On this I am fairly firm. Now we can talk about the other side of this island. At the moment there are 2 Thermador Ovens one on each end of the island. I want to dispose of both. I need a new dishwasher, I will have storage under the sink. There is a microwave, a primitive warming drawer. What I would like to do re this island is to put the sink where it belongs, have the dishwasher to the left of where I would wash my dishes, and next to that on the left some kind of a cooler for sode, water etc. On the right side of the sink, I want a shelf for my cookbooks, next to that on the opposite end I would like to have a wine fridge, just something under the counter. I would like to hear what you think of this. Here is my crummy drawing

Hi Shannon, We have electric here in this house, I hate it. I want to replace with gas because I prefer to cook with gas. This house for us is a 2nd home. I live most of the year in Switzerland, and so I am very familiar with Induction. I guess I am just old fashioned preferring to cook with gas :) - cant teach an old dog new tricks.
