Refinishing floors without leaving the home

Has anyone ever personally had hardwood floors sanded and refinished while still living in the house? If so, what product did you use? We would be able to completely empty the area being refinished, and sleep on a different level in the home.
I'm not opposed to being gone for a night if need be. But being away from home for 2 weeks is a definite no (and that's what I've seen is the norm).

Much more possible with modern waterbased finishes presuming you won't have to walk on the floors to get out! Years ago we had a house where we refinished the first floor and staircase so we had to come and go via a ladder up the back of the house and in the bedroom window (oil based) Things we do when we are young.

Water based, water based, water based. Those are the three pieces of advice I would offer. Bona Traffic HD is AMAZING. Loba 2K Supra AT is stunning but hard to find. They are considered very low odour and can cure inside of 7 days (cure = move furniture back onto the surface). Walking on these floors (stocking feet) can occur within 24 hours of the last coat....depending on temps and humidity.

Our specialist stair carpenter used Bona water based on our stairs and bannister. We were able to use the stairs with socks on after a few hours. The stairs came out great.
