A daylily friend told me this tip about how to protect pollinated daylilies from rain. When she told me - the rain stopped of course so I couldnt try it! But it rained Monday and I had a chance to try out this tip. After pollinating the daylily, take a plastic straw that bends. Cut the length to fit over the stigma/style. Put over the style, gently anchor it down in the flower - bend the straw to protect from rain. It works great!! Next day I pulled them off - the pollen was intact so I know it did not get wet. Will wait to see if these lilies will make pods. This is one of the niftiest garden tips I have gotten in a long time! Now.......no more worrying about rain dampening my pollen dabbing efforts!
