OOh, i love the navy blue bookcases.

You need some dark to ground things, so i vote dark console. I like the one with round "knobs," the other is too ubiquitous IMHO. I don't care for the first mirror, sorry looks to much like a kid's craftproject to me (am I the only one who got a rock tumbler for xmas one year?). Love love the second round mirror, bone/tortoise looks great. Also echos the console i like.

Do you have any things you are bringing with you? Id like to see something old or one of a kind... dont like houses that look like the decor was all just bought IYKWIM?

I don't have a ton of furniture I brought with me. most houses I have bought in the past needed so much work I never really got around to decorating a ton as we moved every 3 years! Mostly artwork and some living room furniture came with me for that area. I do have an old rug I may put by the entry too. I had it in my office in the last house. it may be too threadbare though? I also have foo dogs I collect and will put a couple on the sideboard.

I had a feeling on the mirror. I do love crystals though! I may have to find somewhere else for it. :) the console with the round knobs is 60 inches and that mirror 46. too big? they may have different sizes I will check. I know they have different shapes.

Yes to a dark console. I like the second mirror and think it would work well with a dark console.

Everything depends on the dimension of the wall from the entrance to that doorway. I'm thinking a round mirror might not work in that location.

Are you thinking about a round table for the foyer with a chandelier above? The current fixture is too small and too short.

I think maybe it is bigger than it looks. It is a 9 ft ceiling right by the door. I don;t like the idea of a round table in the middle as this is a walk way area. and I don't want to change the light fixtures at this time.

I prefer the first sideboard you posted as well. The second looks too much like a vanity to me. I also prefer the second mirror over the first you posted. If I were you, I'd draw out the entry on graph paper and start placing the essential elements I was considering (for function) and then see what else makes sense in the space. Where were you thinking of placing the sideboard? If on the nearest wall to the entry, would there be space (and purpose) to a long seating bench on the wall near the stairs? Yes, to bringing in the art! I'd play around with the six pieces on the floor to see how they can be grouped. And before the nail on the wall hammering starts, taping the pieces in butcher block paper on the wall is always sage advice. :) (Tips on grouping artwork from Ballard Designs, Martha Stewart, BH&G.) Perhaps the six pieces would make sense over the bench with larger pieces on the walls near the door? Try your carpet in the space. That's an easy change if you don't like it. Btw, it's not threadbare, it's vintage. ;-)

Can't see the details of this painting but remember this is YOUR house to decorate to your taste. Art is personal. You won't know if you like a certain piece in a spot until you try it.

Art is the last thing I do (for the most part). I might have an idea where I want X to go, but until furniture and rugs are in place, I usually save it for last.

I think you might need some additional light in this area. This is the only buffet lamp I could find with stones.

The bone mirror just might be a bit too big for the sideboard.

Now that I think about it, do you really need a mirror in the foyer? You'll use another entrance to leave most of the time. Guest will have a powder room mirror. I've only used a mirror in one out of four houses. I'd rather see art (color and interest) on the walls.

I love the first mirror. The variety of textures and colors is beautiful, and and makes the second mirror look boring in contrast. I think it would a lively, interesting look in your entry. Go with what you love; you and your husband are the ones who have to live with whatever you choose.

I prefer the second dark console because it looks “lighter”. The first one looks too boxy sitting directly on the floor. I would look for a mirror or after you choose an entry rug. The house is stunning and (IMO) it needs color. I’m envisioning a fancier mirror, but painted a happy color right at the front door.
I think it’s great having a mirror at the door so you can check yourself before you let guests in, and they can put their coats and hats back on before they leave. Mirrors can go anywhere. That being said, a great piece of art is a nice hello at the front door.

I would NOT choose the dumpy-looking console with the bosses for handles. It doesn't suit the space. I would go light and airy. Use a rich-colored rug (in whatever style goes with the rest of the house.

What about a console without drawers? Something high on beautiful legs would be enough in this space.
