Thomasville cabinets or something else?

5 years ago

We went to Home Depot and got a quote for Thomasville cabinets, but looking at reviews online I am seeing more negative than positive.. however, the designer at home depot did say there is going to be a significant price increase after the weekend (thanks COVID..)

we are feeling nervous to take the plunge, but had gotten a quote for Schrock semi custom from somewhere else a while ago that was about $5k more (not what we want to spend) and JSI was much cheaper, but reviews arent good either. what brand cabinets do people get/recommend? purestyle versus painted?

    I would be nervous allowing HD to do my kitchen. For me, they are a place to do research and get ideas but not for installation.

    Have you been to local independent kitchen and bath showrooms?

    They aren’t installing, just getting cabinets from here. Our contractor would install (we’re doing other major things, lighting, tearing down a wall, first floor flooring)
    We got quotes from our local hamshaw lumber place kitchen design center, too much money for Schrock cabinets, which I know are good quality but $5k more than our Home Depot quote for thomasville with all the “works” for organization. We also got a quote for JSI, less money actually but their reviews seem the same or maybe worse than reviews for thomasville. And, this local place messed up an order for a window when a tree hit our house we waited an extra 2 months because they never ordered it.

    We also got a quote for custom built cabinets, but the guy was flakey and took 4 months to get us the quote from the time he met us for the estimate, and too much money.

    There’s a few kitchen design places around but we weren’t sure as far as pricing if it would be a lot more or not, we’re feeling pressure time-wise to order Home Depot before the price increase (if it’s even a thing, but with how things are I feel that it probably is true)

    Just not sure if thomasville has good cabinets or we should hold off and find something else (though we have done some research, maybe we are missing something though!)

    We are headed to HD now to purchase... Going to go through line by line to make sure we have all the pieces we want/need. Will have our contractor go through it too before it goes to production. Any tips for it are welcome!

    Tip: Do NOT get base cabinets with pull-out shelves; get drawer base cabinets.

    @mdln why is that?

    Abuse is never covered. Youre describing abuse. Cabinets are fine furniture for the kitchen. You wouldn’t slop water all over gramma’s mahogany buffet for 10 years and not dry it immediately. Or, if you would, I bet gramma doesnt will you any if her nice things.

    This is not SLOP WATER OVER the cabinets. It is undetectable water droplets that would inevitably make their way onto the cabinets. NOT ABUSE, USE. BTW- Grandma's dead!.....And her table looks great!

    Water damage like is being described is ALWAYS due to not following the care requirements, and thus voiding the warranty.
