Yes there are sliding shower enclosures without a track but they will still have guides at the very least at the floor.

They make a glass shower door that hangs on rails like a barn door no bottom rail. We put one in a on suite bathroom that is on the smaller size.

Saw them at the trade show. Very nice and no bottom track to clean.

Yes there are popular doors that hang from a top track and leave the bottom entry surface clear. Not really a handicapped detail because sliding doors don’t open the entire 1/2 width.

We have no door, but that makes for a big shower to keep clean.

Our shower is larger and has a swinging door. It's zero threshold. I feel like that is a better accessible feature than the door but you can certainly get some nice sliding, frameless, top hung door hardware that only has some stops on the floor that won't interfere with the clear entrance path for a wheelchair or walker.

Most hanging glass doors do require some sort of guide spacer on the floor. One that we had years ago did not. And the doors would swing and bang into each other when they were opened. Make sure there is some sort of spacer between them or this might be an issue. Operate them, if possible, before installing.

Thanks so much everyone for your comments! Do any of you who have encountered the trackless door know the manufacturer’s name? Google is not able to help me. Since our shower will be 8’4” long, I think we could go without a door, but we’re concerned that it might be drafty when showering 😨… What’s your experience with this ?

CRL makes the Laguna, PRL makes the Tiffany or the Ruby, not sure the model but I am sure Kohler, Basco & Vigo all make them as well.

Wouldn’t recommend it based on personal experience of having one of these hanging sliding doors in a guest bath (was fine for in there), but also from experience having a curbless handicapped shower. For the curbless it worked very well to have no door at all.

Here is a pic of the sliding door for a tub-to-shower conversion in a very small bathroom. This was not custom just a stock door made by Vigo with top track only. Nothing on the bottom surface, the door was suspended, glided smoothly, no problems.

iMHO the track sits too low for use in a spacious master bathroom, and too low to use on a curbless shower without bumping your head.

If designing something custom I would have the hardware placed very high with much taller doors.

Diane, I believe you had said you installed a barn door style glass shower enclosure. If so, did you add a threshold on the door or on the curb? My glass guy is saying I need to add a "speed bump" if I choose to install the barn door style glass door for our corner shower. Please advise me on if your barn door leaked water at the bottom. Thanks in advance.

You need to speak with Pro on curbless showers. Just removing the track does not make it a handicapped accessible shower. Better to be prepared properly.

Actually, my comment was directed to Diane as I believe she installed a barn door style glass shower door. I could be mistaken though…

My initial question was with regards to a ”speed bump” attached to the bottom/curb to help with water leakage. Diane seemed to have experience as to whether it helped with water not escaping the shower.

We do not have a curb the shower is a walk in with the slope to a center drain. We do not have water leak out.
