I would advise going with a floor that closely matches your backsplash/countertops

My kitchen cabinets are cherry without any stain so they are not quite as dark as yours but they still have red undertones. I had my floors refinished too when I remodeled the kitchen. I chose to go without stain on the floors. I like the contrast between the floors and the cabinets. All the trim and woodwork in my house is 1980s golden oak. The floors are lighter than the golden oak trim and look great with it.

Oh, that’s beautiful. If my floors are not stained but kept natural, I wonder if they’ll have an undertone that clashes with the red in the dark cherry cabinets? I guess I’ll have to see once the current stain is removed. I do like the idea of natural.

The light/white floor is gorgeous and if we were replacing the wood, it would be first choice, but we want to stay with wood flooring.

with existing counter I'd get a stain ...go with a bit of intensity up from natural undertones of red / cooler brown...... you want to make the counters pop a little if they remain. Then later get a simpler whitish backsplash tile . this will be really nice. Bring in samples ..there are many shadings and intensity light to medium for wood floors.
