I think your carpet is the wrong size. Picture yourself moving chair in and out and how annoying will will be half on carpet and half not.

I say add some built ins behind. Not this colour necessarily but you get the idea.

That is out of budget now, hence my question re floating shelves

One thought is to move the desk forward some and add a table behind it against the wall. Could add art above the table vs the mirror. This concept wouldn't need shelving on that wall.

Do you get direct sun on the windows at the same time you may be on a call with a patient? If so, half your face will be illuminated and part in the dark. Your two choices are to put the desk on the long wall so that the windows are in front of you or put window treatment that will block the window closest to you.

If you are on a budget, try Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. Something like dark blue/gray shelving unit in a precious post even if smaller would look so much better than floating shelves. Buy something that is inexpensive because the finish isn’t great and paint it. The two lamps that you have will be great for lighting the room for your calls.

Just to give you a few mounting ideas. You'd use shelves that match your desk.

The background is not the first thing to deal with. The most important thing for your telehealth calls is lighting. You want good natural light on your face, so you should turn the desk so it is facing the window and you are too. See all the shadows being cast on the wall in question; you need to eliminate shadows first. Make your face look good as you look a bit up into the camera. The best thing behind you is art, perhaps without a distinct subject matter to distract but some soothing colors and more contemporary so it relaxes callers, but they aren't trying to see through your head and determine what the picture is. If you do calls when the outside lighting is not so good, use a ring light. I don't think the lights you have are what you need for the calls to look professional.

You really don't have the space to hang shelves on the back wall if you plan to get to your desk at the back.

i'd have desk face windows, put art behind desk and then you could do shelves on the original wall or just hang your diplomas etc. that way the rug will work

It’s hard to judge the space between desk/wall and desk/chair, but it feels pretty tight. Instead of having to allow for width of shelves I’d add warmth and interest with a collage.

First off, what color are your walls? I love them. I’ve been looking for a light blue gray that doesn’t look washed out on camera.

I personally don’t like working in front of the window.

I would move the desk to the wall opposite of the windows so the windows are in the background and move the chair to the corner by the window. That should free up the wall for a filing cabinet or credenza (lockable) and it will be out of the camera view.

I agree that lighting is important. I got a couple of Neewer round lights on Amazon.
