Hi. We are considering using black slate around our fireplace (below the mantel). We also have a hearth and might use slate on the hearth seat. We are unsure about the front face of the hearth. Any thoughts on where to place the slate.

Looking for DIY tips on cutting the big pieces of slate (24 X 12 inch) into shapes like seen in one of the photo in the image below (middle left side one)
