Different types of grout have different methods to remove. It could be the grout he used............call him back. Let him FIX it.

Usually muriatic acid if it’s a cement based grout but not your problem. I hope you still owe some money.

Don't try muriatic acid on your own , please! It must be diluted, it is toxic, and IF the tile setter wants to use it? He owns process and result, based on the material he used to grout.

Definitely call back the person whoever installed the tiles, they need to remedy the grout issue. I am sure you spent your hard earned money on your patio❣️

Thank you, I see the advice here is pretty consistent. This was completed 2 weeks ago. We thought the grout would have washed off naturally. We will contact the contractor but based on our experience through the process I honestly don’t think he will come back so think we’re on our own.

Update: The contractor said I don't have to do anything it will wash away after a few rains. I didn't quite believe that so I thought I would try the most gentle option first. I mixed up half water/half white vinegar and soaked the stone, waited a few minutes and scrubbed it down vigorously with a stiff nylon brush. I did this 2x and I'm satisfied with the results.

The problems that turn out to be no problem are the best to have, if you're going to have problems at all. : )
