The tilers could have done a better job framing the range with tile, but really, it looks good. Put some colorful canisters and kitchen towels out. Add some art in the area if you have an empty wall space or two. Very nice.

You probably wouldn't have liked the extra cut pieces on the end either, I'm guessing. You ask "What is/was the correct way to handle this?" To pick a tile that would not have this issue. Can you try and live with it for awhile and see how you feel about it in 6 months or so. If it is driving you nuts still then re-do. Often when something is brand new in the space, it tends to emphasize any issues. When time passes our outlook changes and by then we've moved on and find ourselves able to live with it after all.

The tilers would have been us:) I think I could deal with the cut pieces in the end more than the off centered tile above the stove. Good point about trying to live with it for a bit..I’ll keep an extra box around. I doubt anyone is going to really notice it but me!

We did frame the tile around the window properly.. we just weren’t thinking when we did this wall :/

With that kind of stove and micro above, there’s really not much tile showing above the stove. I’d leave it, at least for now.

Tile layout 101: Start from the center and adjust. Wrap the left corner. Show the client the layout in advance for discussion and final decision. Elementary for a pro.

I think it looks really nice and would not have ever noticed or thought about the tile needed to be 'centered' with the stove. When you get some things sitting on the counters it's not going to be noticeable at all. You did a great job of laying the tile. I prefer this over cut pieces on the ends.

If I walked into your kitchen I'd be looking at that beautiful flowering bush/tree and not your stove!

I generally try to centre tiles on the stove/rangehood...particularly if the tile is very bold (as in the 2nd picture here). But I don't think what the tiler did here is a cardinal sin. I would have preferred to see them centred but I think most people would live with it. If it's really driving you crazy, consider grinding out the grout and replacing it with grout closely matched to the tile colour.

I think you are being too hard on yourself! Once you get a few things on the counters, you won’t notice it as much. That window and pretty view seem to be the star feature anyway. Enjoy your new space.

I think you guys did a good job. To me, it's supposed to be a neutral tile so the fact that it's off-center makes it look like background and not focal point, which I think is as it should be.

I would not be happy with this layout. I think that using large tile in a stacked pattern made it more difficult to lay it out. I wonder if an offset layout would have avoided the problem? Maybe @Dragonfly Tile & Stone Works, Inc. could weigh in on this.

Congratulations on doing the tile work yourself! I would live with it for a while to see if the “horrible” problem fades away when the kitchen has accessories and you’re used to it. Yes, a different tile might have masked the off-set problem with the stove, but you did such a good job with the tile it would be a shame to rip it all out.
