Blueberries flower in early to mid-spring, so you should see some fruit already. If not, it's better to remove flowers the first year anyway to make the plant put more effort into getting established and growing a strong root system instead of putting its energy into fruiting.

I would focus now on making your soil ready by digging in sulfur and compost. Growing blueberries in containers is NOT easy -- you will be more successful if you move you plant back to the ground as soon as you lower your soil pH. If you start now, you can replant your blueberry in the fall. This way you can be sure the roots won't freeze in the container over the winter.

I used to grow blueberries in Maryland. When I started, my soil pH was also around 7. I managed to get that lowered substantially over one growing season. My shrubs ended up being 5x4 feet, so there's no way I could have grown them in containers. Just storing them over the winter would have been too complicated. That was in Zone 6B, and during polar vortex we got temps around 0F.
