hexagon vs picket kitchen backsplash

Hey Everyone! Trying to decide on a Kitchen backsplash. The kitchen is not ready so I don’t have a picture but it has a peninsula and an island.
All kitchen cabinets are white with a navy blue island.

I had decided on simple single picket tiles (not the mosaic) but I found these hexagon tiles (mosaic) that caught my eye now I can’t decide …
The hex tile has a shine that makes me a bit unsure i usually go simple but I guess that’s what makes it a bit more unique so I laid it in the kitchen area and it doesn’t seem too much

First question honeycomb or hexagon?any reason not to choose one or the other?

Also I wanted to do a design behind the stove … not sure what will go with either option?

I am partial to the picket fence. Such a pretty quartz you have chosen.

    hex

The hex is lovely! Let it shine in a plain design.....nothing different over the stove.

Both are very nice. The hex has more drama than the picket. I would get samples of both and see which worked the best with the cabinets and counters.

I too like the Hex. My builder told me hex is more expensive to lay, not sure what your builder says. I really like the shine. Maybe a tile with some blue in it for above the stove?

Picket over the hex. Personally feel like hex is for a bathroom floor.
But either way wait until your kitchen is complete to even begin to think about the backsplash. You will be so much happier that way.
Don’t rush the process there are so many kitchen backsplash tiles out there. Have fun with it.

Have you considered the bedrosian cloe tile? it would look great with your countertop.

Picket. I also see hex as a floor tile.

Take your sample out of the plastic! I would also check if you get any reflection/glare from such a glossy tile, specially if you get any direct sunlight streaming through any of your windows.

I tested a glossy/iridescent tile once, that became blinding once the western sun came through the kitchen window. That got crossed off the list quickly!

Hexagon. It's a classic, and the size is better suited to a backsplash.

Thanks everyone for the input! Great suggestions! I think I’m going to wait for sure until the cabinets come in and maybe tape the samples on and see throughout the day.

I did put them on the wall and didn’t see any reflection but I think it’s good to check a few times throughout the day!

I’m also considering a large format tile as it’s sooo clean (no grout line). my contractor said he hasn’t done that before but don’t see a problem.

I would to quartz countertop but that $$ too expensive. Has anyone done large format tiles (24x48) as backsplash? How was your experience

You are wise to wait until everything else is in before choosing the backsplash. Just one word of caution: be sure to have it IN WRITING that there will not be a 4” backsplash added to your quartz.. A friend learned the hard way and had to tear the small splash out at her expense because the contractor assumed it was needed since another backsplash had not been chosen yet. Good luck!

What shape are your fixtures? If globes, go with hexagon, if more angular, go with picket.

OP would love to know what your final choice for backsplash was, I’m trying to decide between picket/hex/subway now….also is that quartz the LG calacatta? Looks very similar to the LG plata I’m considering and wonder how you like it!!
