Assuming cucumber is on the menu today you picked it at the right moment. It's hard to tell the, size for one thing. I'm unfamiliar with the square fencing you have unless it's cattle fencing. If that's what is is these are huge. But just from looking at the cucumber against the white background I'd guess you wouldn't want it any bigger.

You're right, I have to remember to add something to the photo to compare for size. Next time. I did measure it. 11 inches long -7.5 inches diameter at the widest point and 6 inch diamter at the top.

I just thought you were supposed to wait until the whole cucumber filled out so that it was the same diameter top and bottom. No?

A lopsided cuke may be due to incomplete pollination, it's best to taste those as you slice them to make sure it's not bitter but generally most are ok. If they get too large then the seeds may be too developed and become tough to chew, for those we pickle em'.

I've only grown Straight Eight cucumbers for so long that I have no other experience. I pick those at 7 or so inches unless I want one and don't have one that big. The smaller ones are better with smaller seeds. I wouldn't worry about even shape. I'd just eat it.

Because of problems I've been peeling them and then using the peeler along the length and quitting when I get to the seeds. Then it doesn't matter how big the seeds are.

Thanks for all that input. I guess I'm going to have to check out Straight 8 next year. [g] I did want to mention I did find the label under my cucumber plants and they are Sweet Success which are evidently a seedless variety and are supposed to get 11" long.
