Do you want a wood table? You could go ahead and invest in a round wood table you truly like AND buy (or have cut) a beveled edge round glass top for it.

This table top appears to be marble. The pedestal would give your family a lot of leg room. It, too, could be covered in glass.

Choose the chairs for comfort first as well as being easy to clean.

Consider investing in six chairs -- four for your new table and two indoor/outdoor chairs that the children can use when engaged in doing arts/crafts that might be a cleaning problem.

I personally like a high back chair with flat back slats AND, as a plus, a seat cushion that has a cover that is easily replaced as needed.

How many of you sit at the table regularly? If there are four or five of you, you might consider a round table that converts to an oval. That’s what we have and I love it a really bug round table for 8-10 can feel awkward and you never get to talk to the person oppsite
