is my pool big enough?

I’m in the middle of building a pool. My backyard is small is only 24x70, so we decided to make a pool 28.5x13. We added a tanning ledge of 4.5x13. And I feel adding the tanning edge was a bad idea because it took away a lot of the swimming space. My pool is already with concrete but talked to my pool builder to see if I can added 4 more feet to the length. They would have to tear down the back wall to add the extra 4 feet. Still waiting on the estimate of how much would this cost me, but I know it would be very expensive. I have attached pictures for you to see. Do you think this is worth it or should I leave the pool as it is.

Only you know how you will use your pool and if you need extra length…for swimming. But most pool owners dip in their pool, vs. swim. And you have the perfect sized pool for that, plus the deck, plus the jacuzzi. So….I would say that you are second guessing yourself. Instead, spend that extra money that you don’t spend on the pool on your landscaping, accessories, etc. It is a gorgeous location, it seems to me. And in the end, you will spend more time enjoying the pool from the deck area than actually IN it. I know there will be others who disagree. But, as I said…it looks wonderful. And I think you are second guessing yourself! Good luck. And please post your decision…and the final result!

Structurally, it's not a good idea to extend the pool.

It would also screw up the existing slope ratio of the transition from the shallow to the deep section. The break point location and trying manipulate what you have have there is not a good idea.

The pool looks fine. Stick with what you have.

We are building a 15x30 pool and added a bump out on the side for the tanning ledge, so that we could keep the full 30 ft length, if anyone wants to do laps.

I would not tear part of it and patch it up ... you are just asking for potential problems down the road. We are waiting for the concrete sub to do the pool, but they are way behind. If your area is having similar issues, the last thing you want is a half demolished pool sitting exposed for weeks while the sub gets around to your job.

Thank you all for your comments. It’s just that when I was planning the pool I thought it was going to be bigger and now I see it so small. I just have one 8 year old son but still would have wanted to have a. Other pool for him. I’m still waiting on the estimate to make a decision because I don’t know what to expect on pricing either

I think this is like when you go from seeing the studs and then the drywall goes on in a construction project. Suddenly it doesn’t look as big as you thought it would be. It is partly an optical illusion…a reality check vs. your imagination. I think it will be as big as you imagined it to be…once it is done. I hope that makes sense?!

My pool is 16x32 and I was also worried it was too small while under construction. Once I got the pavers and started using the pool, it doesn't seem too small at all - I'm very happy with this size and yours is not much smaller.

We put in a pool last year smaller yard and snowy winters we settled on a 12 x 24 plenty of room to swim, but as other said we spend more time floating or sitting on the built is ledge. For a backyard pool IMO you will enjoy the pool as sized

I decided to stay with what I already have. It was around the $12,000 to add the extra length. It was too much kk ey to add 4 more feet. So it is staying as it is and I just hope I made the right decision and that my son will enjoy it. Thank you all for your feedback!
