using fresh pollen is best. but i will use refrigerated pollen in a pinch. stored for up to a week.

i spend allot of time trying to push plants to bloom thru alot of sunlight water and fertilizer. cold well water flushed into the soil can encourage growth spurts and scape starting.

some do use dried frozen pollen but it never worked for me.

i use forcing by bringing some in the house early in late winter for a head start on blooming. but timing and weather is dicey. it often weakens the plant and then they don't set seed. but pollen works well regardless. this year i was lucky enough to get tc i purchased to bloom early as they were under lights all winter.

many seedlings under lights will bloom as well mid to ealy summer. i use them for pollen without a problem. most don't have energy to produce viable seed.

sometimes just cruising a nursery you will see pots of southern plants blooming earlier than they would in the north. or if you can work with a southern hybridizer to get them started in a greenhouse and ship them up north for ealy blooming.

this year the drought here is throwing everything into chaos. elatior bloomed twice but no seed only pollen. galaxy bloomed a month late. the reds are a week early. sum and substance sets pod like crazy with the right weather on old plants.
