Once upon a time, I trusted my husband to hang the clock without micromanaging it.

This is why I’m the way I am, lol. I was just reminiscing over old photos.

So for reference, we have a step in one room of our basement. Like most basements there are a lot of quirky angles and bulkheads, and this particular corner has quite a few. That bulkhead is the main HVAC trunk. I just found it irritating and amusing that he centered it the way he did. It reminds me that many people can look at the same thing, but see entirely different perspectives.

Oh, I moved it right after he hung it. He was being so literal about centering it, LOL! It’s now centered over the ledge. I just thought it was funny that what seemed obvious to me wasn’t how he saw it and we were both looking at the same wall. I think that happens a lot here. It’s also a good reason it helps to have all these eyes on these projects for multiple opinions and perspectives.

BTW, the clock is just a repro. It’s actually made mostly of foam. No one would know. It’s also so loud that I’ve let the batteries die. It’s always right twice a day 😜. I should make sure that battery hasn’t gone bad.

I am with hubby. Nice job. He hung the clock on the wall space that can handle it. Now, decorate the shelf to fill in the wall plug area.

And paint the "shelf" a color

Works well. You could let it be or you could add wall "art" centered over the switches and see how long it takes him to notice it.

I thought you were talking about the hanging height...I think it needs to be lower. I like the placement otherwise, but I'd paint the outlet covers the same color as the wall then do as judianna suggests and add some things on the shelf to the left. Something with a bit of height (at least one thing).

eta: is it rehung in the 2nd photo?

eta2: I guess I missed the gist of your post??? When rereading it, I guess you are saying this happened some time ago, that's an old photo and you 'corrected' the placement in the 2nd photo? So you're not asking for opinions/suggestions on the placement now?

Wow, that’s a pretty clock! We need more info on it, please, just for fun. How deep is the shelf? It doesn’t appear to be of much use but looks can be deceiving. I’d have centered it more tbh and maybe up a tad if possible and still be able to hang it.

I don't think it's SO bad of a spot. There's shelf space underneath it so you can actually utilize that to bring some balance to the area. By itself, with reference to nothing else, it's going to look awkward sure. BUT the moment some other objects enter the space it gives the clock more context and reference.

Updating a few of my posts…

Yes - the clock was lowered and moved to the left.

That weird cabinet in the room was actually a custom build for the space created by the footings for the fireplace upstairs, and used to house our TV back when they were little boxes. We now hang the TV on the other wall and the cabinet has been repurposed for games and toys for the grandkids. Years ago I found an old door that perfectly covers it!

Is he an engineer? We still laugh about the time my BIL hung a picture on a small segment of wall by centering it between the light switch on the left and the right end of the wall…looked just like your clock placement The BIL was an electrical engineer.

Not an engineer, but close. He was a math teacher. Very literal-minded.
