2 or 3 pendants?

last modified: 5 years ago

Hello,

how many light pendants would look the best over an island that’s 10 feet long and 6’ 8” wide? the ceiling height is 9’. Below is a photo of the model home. My kitchen will have cabinets to the ceiling and light wood tone stained cabinets.

Why does the island appear to impede the doorway. I wouldn’t want that

Hello. i think it’s the way i took the photo because in person it doesn’t.

Agree, it's an optical illusion. 3 pendants for sure.

Thank you Angel for your feedback. I currently have it at 3 with my builder, but was double guessing myself. Main conern is that 3 may block my hunsband's view to the TV when he helps wash dishes lol. He pointed this out and that's where this discission came from lol. i was considering 2 large pendants, but leaning more on 3 for now too. I appreciate your input.

We have three and it’s great. Also sink in island and love. No issues

3 pendants for sure! Reassure husband that with 3 lights they won’t need to be extra large which they might be if you only had 2. Unless he’s really tall, the middle pendant won’t block his view either! Here’s something to think about - if you do have only two pendants, a brighter light canned light should be directly over the sink. I have a 10’ island which is angled not straight & I have only 2 pendants. But, I have a canned light in middle over the sink which is on its own switch located at the end of island -it doesn't come on with the switch for the 5 kitchen canned lights I also have. That model kitchen looks like it has only 4 cans & no pendants - can't be near enough light! For your kitchen be sure to include under cabinet lighting & have them install a dimmer switch for them. I guarantee you will love that feature!

Thank you so muxh KW your feedback is very helpful! i will be sure to ask the builder to add 3 pendants and an extra canned light. i am now deciding if i should have a star formation of the canned lights or should just place them right behind the pendant lights? The builder has under cabinet lighting, but noticed they placed them under every other caninet. i am thinking it’s best foe all the cabinets to have their own lighting. Thanks again 😊

Under cabinet lighting - you will want them under every single cabinet - no breaks! These lights will be directly over your work space so you need the light. The dimmer function is so great for early morning or late evening. I have 3000k LED dimmable under cabs - love them!

Thanks again KW. They sound great! i have dimmers so far on the canned lighting, but will ask about the under cabinet lighting too and make sure all cabinets have them. Great tips! I truly appreciate it! 😊

I don't know if it too late to make this adjustment to your kitchen cabinets.

Have them build out the cupboards over the fridge (same as the micro/oven)

    along with a side panel.

Very Nice! I can see it being practical too because the cabinet will be much easier to reach, and no dust collecting on top of the refrigerator. Thanks so much for Visual Angel. I appreicate all of your input. 😊
