Buy both. Some big pieces, some small pieces. The obvious big piece will be a good sofa bed/sleeper sofa. Another good large piece will be a wall of storage. Check Ikea for that. Go large. The more storage, the better. But use different depths of cabinets, deep for clothes, more shallow for other stuff, some open storage to bring in some air.
Try to keep some of the storage off the floor, hang cabinets on the walls. If you buy furniture, get furniture that's on legs. If you can see the floor under furniture, the space seems larger.

Ikea can be your friend in this. I hope you have one near you.






If you like it, it's fine, but see how lots of smaller things make the space seem smaller than the larger items in small spaces in the pictures above?

measure, measure, measure!!!!

Get blue painters masking tape and tape out on the floor what you're planning to put there. It will give you an idea of how much space items take up.
Also, think about colour. Don't buy a dark sofa, keep the large pieces in a lighter colour.

I'm personally not keen on the black table with the cubes under. Too dark and square and harsh looking. And in fact... too boring.

Have you made a floor plan to scale? Or as I said, make it with masking tape in your studio. It's really important to know if and how it fits before you buy things.

Do you prefer a bed to a sofa bed? If you place a bed lengthwise against the wall, you could throw lots and lots of pillows on it and have it double up as a reeeeaaaalllly comfy sofa.

Maybe you'll have enough space for a small round table with comfy chairs around it.





In stead of the bar? Would be more useful if you have friends over (for dinner or coffee)

The experts say, think dual purpose. A sleek desk that doubles for dining. Ottomans you can move around for seating in your living area and dining. Create separate areas by function.

There are tons of NYC apartments smaller than yours that accommodate sleeping, storage, dining & entertainment space.- kitchens!

And, don't forget the walls. You can mount all kinds of things, like drop down tables. Stay away from oversized furniture. Scale is everything.

Look at the IKEA model rooms. It's unbelievable how much function they get into much smaller spaces than yours.

Only have accessories you love.

No, I don't think you have enough space for both. Get the most comfortable bed for you and let that double up as a sofa. Or if it's a sofa bed, perfect. Although, if you're like me, you won't be going through the trouble of turning the bed into a sofa every morning and back into a bed every evening again. Only if you have people around.
I like that left one. If it is a good bed for you to sleep on.
Think about who you'll be entertaining. If it's a bunch of friends who don't mind lounging on the bed, that's okay. Otherwise you may want to consider the sofa that you can turn into a bed.
Again, Ikea has great options too! Good quality.

She's right...I had a sofa bed once in a studio apartment many moons ago...I never made it into a sofa unless I was having people over...but my best friends saw and lounged on the bed...LOL

Yeah...I am like you...I will not turn a sofa into bed and vice versa everyday. Lol.
I will go for the left one...I like it better too...

The bar was also a great option, but with a small table and chairs, you have more seating and you can have people over for dinner. I'm wondering how long you can sit on those odd shaped chairs. And think about how you'll use them. If you prefer sitting at a bar having breakfast for example, go for that.

Gosh... you're good at finding things for smaller homes.

I just came from another thread where someone used a loo roll instead of masking tape to put the shape of a chair on the floor :-D Worked a treat!
So... please do that before you buy anything.

Don't forget about corner beds and mirrors to increase the efficiency and comfort.

Who knows you may well have space for a bed and a sofa. I'm wondering if you gave the right measurements. 6 x 5 meters is almost square and your picture looks very much rectangular.

The 6mx5m is the remaining space after the kitchen and built in cabinet. :-). The chairs are comfy enough.
My friend commented that that dining will not look good if theme is modern, what do you think? :-)

I think the bar will definitely give you a more modern look.

I'm rethinking. Could be that you DO have enough space for sofa and bed. Sorry. It's just... all the online roomplanners that I know use feet and inches and I'm metric, so I'm more or less confused all the time about sizes. Anyway...

Hi there, just a couple of thought to add to the discussion -I love your choices and colors! I did wonder if you considered getting a bed with built in storage underneath? That might give you some extra space although it will not be as open looking as your choice. Also, it looks like you want rugs, if so I'd suggest the bigger the better, anchored by the furniture. I think one or maybe two rugs maximum to define area will work better than smaller ones. There's a new post on Houzz about indoor outdoor rugs and I was surprised at how reasonably priced they were. You can also buy your bigger pieces first and move in and then add the extras, such as art work etc. I would also look for one great piece of art, rather than lots of little bits, same with a larger-sized mirror to your taste. Decoenthusiaste had it spot on with those large mirrors behind a bed against the wall! Or how about a large standing mirror behind a piece of furniture? I go to consignment shops and browse frequently and it took a few months to find just the right mirrors, etc after I moved in. Would love to see the "after" photos!

Yeah...the bed is something im still contemplating...im still window shopping tom for that.

Agree with rugs, mirrors and art piece. I will have 1 floor to ceiling mirror maybe at the wall entrance so i get to see myself before i leave. :-)

With your furnitiure choices, the top right one is a 'no' for me. Too 'country' style.
The other two I both like, depending on where you want to place the bed.

Not too country. And practical with the storage.

Agreed, it looks nice. You can put a cover on it that will blend in. If you use a daybed, perhaps push it into a corner and make it look more like a couch. I liked the upper left one, but theres no storage. If you buy a round and see-through dining table it would also add air to the space. Did you like SF Urban studio photos above? I found it soothing as everthing blended. Here's another Houzz link for inspiration on small spaces and there are tips on measuring out items on the floor (I use butcher block paper). That is something else I would do before buying. if you have a budget, get things built in, ideally for a compact space, it is better to have stuff built that are multifunctional so every space is utilized. I see you are from Manila too. =)
