Hardie siding warranty

My contractor’s contract said that pre-painted Hardie siding would be Installed. Instead he painted the siding himself. i understand there is a longer warranty with the prepainted. Can anyone confirm this? He tried to do this without telling me and is refusing to reduce his fee. I havent paid in full yet. What should i do?

What does you contract say was to be installed? How do you know he painted the siding? I would contact Hardie and get a copy of their warranty for primed versus prefinished.

If he painted all six sides of each board two coats each, I don't know that I'd be mad about this.

I came to the house one day and saw them painting the siding.

I may be wrong but in the past I thought Hardie prefinished still needed a top coat in the field to get the full warranty. Like I said I may be incorrect.
